Psychics

"Mysticism requires the notion of the unknowable, which is revealed to some and withheld from others; this divides men into  those who feel guilt and those who cash in on it."

TV Scam
When evaluating products that are ”to good to be true," call the manufacturer and ask for evidence, not testimonials. If you find yourself asking ”Is this too good to be true?", well, really, what do you think? Frauds typically use words like "burn" or "melt" fat away (or "absorb" knowledge) while you  sleep.
The phrase "Not available in stores." is often a clue that stores wouldn't touch the product. Also avoid products which claim to work by changing the ”balance” of your ”energy” flow.

Seen it Coming

Feb 15, 2002 The Providence Journal
From `Psychics' accused of fraud
"WASHINGTON - Federal fraud fighters say Miss Cleo's 'psychic' hot line should have seen it coming: a lawsuit accusing the service of rampant deception. Describing the hot line as 'permeated with fraud,' the Federal  Trade Commission said yesterday that it wants to shut down Access Resource Services Inc. and Psychic Readers Network. The two companies in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are behind the telephone psychic-reading service that on television and the Internet promises insights into love and money. (AP)"

”Arouses sexual desire, improves memory, suppresses appetite to aid weight loss, helps enhance muscle tone or size, improves memory, helps you relax, prevents wrinkles,” and on and on and on.

Mid 2010 LBN
From -Commentary by Woody Allen
"
In the press conference, Woody also tore into psychics and fortune tellers, the subject of his new movie, and dismissed them as frauds. 'It’s all quackery, humbug, and charlatanism,' he said. 'It’s a billion dollar industry that takes advantage of people when they’re most vulnerable.'”

A God Who Hates / Wafa Sultan

Review by Daniel Pipes, director, Middle East Forum

"Wafa Sultan paints a scorching, unforgettable portrait of Syrian Muslim society, especially the degradation of it's women, and lyrically appreciates her adopted American homeland, which she calls 'the land of dreams.' But she also worries that Middle East customs are encroaching on the West and writes with passion to awaken Americans to a menace they barely recognize, much less fear."
